Whether you’re studying stars through a telescope or cells through a microscope, the sciences engage your intellectual curiosity like nothing else. As a general science major, you’ll study at least three of these fields — biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, and psychology — and do advanced work in one of them, plus a year of math. You’ll gain confidence to pursue knowledge and ideas across disciplines, setting you up for professional success. You’ll be well prepared for graduate study in interdisciplinary fields such as biophysics and psychobiology or for a career in teaching, environmental science, medicine, law, or engineering.
You’ll have the opportunity to take advantage of Grinnell’s local resources and global opportunities to gain hands-on experience. For example, you can conduct research — such as engaging in environmental fieldwork at the College’s living ecosystem and laboratory, Conard Environmental Research Area. Or you can travel abroad to study climate change and many other issues around the world.
