The Pittsburg State University Intensive English Program provides a variety of specific language and cultural services to international students. The main objectives of the IEP are to raise students' English language level, through quality classroom instruction and to prepare students to pursue their academic degree programs at Pittsburg State University. Furthermore, IEP strives to provide opportunities for students to experience and learn about American culture.
The Intensive English Program (IEP) is a full-time program featuring two 15-week semesters (Fall and Spring) during the academic year and one 9-week session during the Summer. Classes are offered at two levels, intermediate and advanced. Students spend approximately 18 hours per week in class, taking courses in grammar, reading, listening/speaking, writing, and academic preparation. The program is flexible, and every effort is made to meet individual student needs.
The successful completion of the Advanced Level of the Intensive English Program (Academic Preparation Course) is the equivalent of a 79 TOEFL score and can be substituted for the TOEFL requirement for many undergraduate and graduate programs at Pittsburg State University.
All PSU students have free access to these additional English skill-building resources and support services:
The Intensive English Program organizes activities each semester to help students learn about the United States and to practice your English. These activities may include holiday celebrations, parties, bowling, trips to museums, trips to local places of interest, shopping trips, picnics, and trips to a major metropolitan area or attraction.
IEP students may use the recreational facilities at PSU, such as racquetball courts, basketball courts, swimming pool, recreation center, gym, and a weight room. In addition, concerts, sporting events, and other campus activities are open to IEP students.
