Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift contract at a hospital in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5–2 years of ICU experience and TNCC certification.
Details
- Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds divided into pods: MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU
- Complex patient population including ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma; heavy trauma volume
- Cardiac experience (CABG/TAVR post-op) is preferred but not required; fresh open-heart cases are not assigned to travelers unless experienced and approved
- Patient ratios are 1:1, 1:2, or occasionally 1:3, depending on acuity
- Charting systems include Epic (required), Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter), and Omnicell
- 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
- Every-other-weekend rotation expected (not guaranteed)
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors including Med/Surg or Tele at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed
Requirements
- Active SD or Compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)
- Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience; 2 years strongly preferred
- Candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience (excluding travel) may be considered with significant RN experience outside of ICU
- Epic EMR experience required
- Experience with vasopressors, sedation, paralytics, hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry
- Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and comfort working in a fast-paced, all-critical-patient environment
- Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred
- Must reside more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
- At least one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- 2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), respiratory therapy available 24/7, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), and physician coverage with 3 intensivists on days and 2 on nights plus an APP on nights
- Orientation consists of a hospital orientation, one 12-hour ICU shift, and one 8-hour ICU shift
- No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, with the requirement to extend to complete a full 13-week contract
- Travelers may occasionally be asked to precept nursing students
- Navy scrubs required
- Free parking is available on site
- Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning to this facility as a traveler
