Title: Engineering Manager (New York)
Location: New York, Ny, 10001, US
Company: Stainless
Engineering Leader
We're looking for an Engineering Leader to own a vertical slice of our stack spanning product, backend, and infrastructure. This isn't a straightforward product engineering role: you'll work across full-stack product development, orchestration, and the infra in between. You'll either be focused on our web platform or on new product initiatives, including AI-powered products. Either way, you'll have real ownership and plenty of meaty problems to solve along the lines of people, process, and technical. This role is onsite in our Manhattan Headquarters.
What You'll Do
- Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team, with direct ownership over hiring, development, and day-to-day management.
- Stay close to the code. You know what your team is working on and can give meaningful technical guidance.
- Drive execution on a mix of product work and infrastructure, balancing short-term delivery with longer-term architectural health.
- Take on ambiguous, cross-functional problems that don't have an obvious owner and figure them out.
- Recruit some of the best engineers and help them do the best work of their careers.
Who You Are
- You've run a winning engineering team and have the receipts. Team health, shipping velocity, and the people you've grown matter to you.
- You're close to the code. Whether you came up as a strong IC or a TLM, you're technically credible and engaged.
- You've managed at a company that was actually figuring things out Series A to C range, where the playbook wasn't written yet.
- You have the judgment to operate without constant supervision. When something's broken, a process, a team dynamic, a technical approach, you diagnose it and fix it.
- You've worked at a B2B company, ideally one with a technical or developer-focused customer base.
- You've shipped AI-powered products or features and understand what that actually involves.
- You care about the developer experience in what you build and in how your team works.
Nice to Have
- Background in developer tools or API tooling.
- Experience across the full stack, including infra and orchestration layers.
Benefits
- We offer competitive salary and generous equity grants.
- Great healthcare coverage options (e.g., fully covered platinum plans).
- Paid commuter benefits & similar.
- Paid team lunch/meals during workdays.
- Flexible PTO plus 3 weeks of company-wide vacation a year (2 weeks in December, 1 week at the end of the summer).
- Flexible WFH and 1 month fully remote per year ("remote February").
