The Metro Nashville Public Health Department (MPHD) is seeking a medical doctor with skills and experience in providing high quality medical care to people of all ages, especially individuals less than 18 years of age. The physician will provide care for public health related matters including working with other physicians in the Tuberculosis Elimination Clinic. Serves as a medical preceptor for advanced practice nurses in the Pediatric and Family Planning programs. This position reports to the Medical Services Director. The ideal candidate will have experience and/or knowledge of effective supervisory and training skills, and experience in treating public health-related conditions in our goal to protect, improve and sustain health and well-being of all people.

Typical Duties:
Provides medical care and treatment of people in public health clinics.
Serves as medical preceptor for advanced practice nurses in the pediatric-related programs and the Family Planning programs.
Determines necessity for referral and refers persons requiring special diagnostic procedures or treatments to appropriate agencies.
Provides evaluation and treatment of people suspected of or confirmed as having tuberculosis.
Examines children for schools, camps, and orphanages.
Furnishes advice and consultation in specialized public health programs.
Maintains clinic and program records and prepares reports.
Provides technical support to staff members.
Works collaboratively with the Tennessee Department of Health and other agencies regarding public health practice and programs.
Partners with local academic institutions implement relevant, collaborative research projects.
Participates in Department-wide medical leadership and emergency preparedness and response
Responds to public inquiries; and responds to public health emergencies.
Serves as deputy health officer to implement legal public health measures when appropriate.
Must be available for after-hours ‘on-call’ duties.
Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited School of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree (D.O.), completion from an accredited Family Medicine or Med-Peds residency program, and has at least 3 years of experience in either a generalized or specialized public health program, with at least 2 years in an administrative capacity, or certification by any specialty Board or eligibility for any specialty Board.
In the event that fully qualified candidates are not available or are not acceptable, a physician who has not completely fulfilled eligibility requirements for specialty board certification may be employed, provided, however, the physician cannot be given permanent status until all eligibility requirements have been completed.
LICENSES REQUIRED
Possession of a license to practice medicine in the State of Tennessee or eligible for licensure.
Valid class “D” driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
