Transportation Supervisor
Overall responsibility for the operations of the transportation department, including both stocking and order filling operations. Primary accountabilities consist of:
- Customer Service and Quality Provide all customers served by the department with quality of service consistent with corporate goals.
- Expenses and Productivity Monitor all facets of the department activity to ensure that expense ratios for the department are within agreed upon levels consistent with departmental budgets and goals.
- Human Resources Provide for an atmosphere in the department that promotes high levels of achievement and low turnover. Maintain a non-union environment.
- Asset Management Monitor proper usage of manpower for approximately 65 employees to achieve goals. Manage company fleet consisting of approximately 60 tractors and 100 trailers.
Key responsibilities:
- Customer Service
- Responsible for the completion and delivery of all orders accurately and on time.
- Respond to all customer, salesman and employee requests and inquiries in a timely manner.
- Foster an atmosphere of good customer service throughout the department. Work closely with customers to provide high levels of service.
- Limit departmental claims and damages to an acceptable level.
- Ensure that individual performance is monitored in order that each employee effectively and efficiently meets customer demands.
- Expenses and Productivity
- Follow operating expense budget for the department.
- Responsible for labor expense rate.
- Advocate creativity and movement within the department, so that the progression of methods and procedures can be measured.
- Manage routes at the most effective and efficient levels.
- Human Resource Management
- Ensure staffing levels are maintained in order to provide superior customer service.
- Promote a labor relation's climate that provides for employee's involvement and teamwork with a dedication to customer service.
- Accountable for maintaining turnover and retention levels at an acceptable level.
- Ability to coach, develop and facilitate individual team members as it relates to overall team performance.
- Uphold, support and maintain company safety standards at all time.
- Asset Management
- Maintain equipment at safe and effective operating levels.
- Ensure that all equipment in the department is maintained in good working order, through proper use and preventative maintenance.
- Accomplish productivity goals while maintaining efficient and effective labor levels.
- Allocate time efficiently. Handle multiple tasks and complete priorities.
- Assist in developing plans for cost reduction, process improvement, schedule and labor hours reduction.
- Establish good working relationships with other departments to ensure smooth transition of inbound and out-bound functions.
Skills and qualifications:
- Some college preferred.
- Experience as a supervisor with increasing levels of responsibilities.
- Articulate, with good presentation and written communication skills.
- Acceptable PC skills concentrating in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations.
Personal qualifications:
- Informal and approachable person who can communicate at all levels.
- Must be able to handle adversity, react quickly, and maintain a positive attitude.
- Willing to work long hours and be on call as needed.
- Motivated to excel and instill that same quality in subordinates.
